PJ Studio II 2016

This collection of photographic essays explores subcultures identified by four photographers that were able to get close to their subjects, witness their experiences and present us with the idiosyncrasies that separate these subcultures from the larger cultural group they identify with. Here we have stories about student run political activism on a college campus as well as political activism tied into a local music scene. We also learn of the rituals that unify the Electronic Dance Movement and a group of women who have come together because of their shared suffering of an illness that is only recently being recognized as a disease. Each exploration of a subculture is presented to us in a visually engaging way through the eyes of four talented and emerging photographers from the Sophomore Photojournalism class at the Corcoran School of the Arts and Design at the George Washington University in the spring of 2016.
